Blog 5: Video Project

Our first step in our video project was coming up with our top 5 reasons to attend WKU. We could think of a lot more than 5, but we narrowed it down by asking other students their opinions, researching what WKU was most known for, and just thinking of why we came here. We then tried to best showcase these reasons in a 60 second video.

Our call to action is to schedule a tour at WKU. Our video’s purpose is to recruit people to come to WKU, so setting up a tour by calling the number in the video is the most necessary next step in the process.

Our video appeals to our audience because it shows what attending WKU will actually be like. Potential students don’t just want stats and numbers, they want to visualize themselves here, and want to know if they can call this place a home. I think our video does a great job of showing the views and sites of Western, but also showcasing its “home” feel.

We did encounter some roadblocks along the process of this project. The weather played a big factor in when we could shoot the video. I myself do not know a lot about video production, but as a team we were able to figure it out. Also none of us were very artistic, so the storyboard part was a little difficult.

I learned a lot about editing and filming during this project. I also learned how big communication is for a project like this. It’s important to meet with your group as many times as necessary and make sure everyone is on the same page.
